Ski and Snowboard at Fernie Alpine Resort
Fernie is a great Canadian ski resort that caters for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. The 140 runs are made up from a very good selection of beginner, intermediate and advanced runs and are accessed by a network of 10 lifts. The beginner runs are all groomed regularly and are easily accessible from the base. The more advanced runs are further up the mountain in the 4 bowls (Timber, Currie, Lizard, Cedar) that make up the top of the resort. There really is plenty for everyone here. A truely great family ski holiday destination.
The ski season in Fernie Canada runs from mid December to mid April (conditions permitting) with the lifts open from 9am to 4pm daily. The busiest time of the year at the ski resort is over the Christmas holidays and at weekends, as lots of visitors come from the surrounding cities on their days off. Apart from during these busy times lift queues are not normally a problem in Fernie and the slopes will often feel very quiet compared to their European equivalents.
Cafes can be found at the top of the Elk lift and the top of the Timber chair along with a good selection of eateries at the base. The facilities at the resort are good with retail and equipment hire shops, along with first aid and guest services. Signs indicating open and closed areas, runs and lifts are situated at the base area and near the lifts. If in doubt ask at guest services or at the lifts.
Please be aware that due to the sheer amount of powder and the steepness of the lizard range, avalanche control work is carried out daily. This can lead to temporary closures on the resort for safety reasons. The Ski Patrol team are always working hard and do their best to keep as much of the resort open as possible at all times, without compromising anyone’s safety.
